Esmeralda Banded Malachite heart pendant in Sterling silver

I hand picked this beautiful stone from Alva Roth. She is an extremely talented lapidary artist. I was drawn to the swirls and spots you search for in high end stone cuts. I wrapped the stone using a weaving technique. The techniques are similar to textile weaves, only with wire. I use solid sterling silver wire. A chain is included, I have a few lengths available.

Fear of Falling: Then and Now

Much like turquoise, malachite's mystic purview includes the ability to foretell impending disaster. By breaking into pieces, these gems could warn their wearers. They could also protect merchants from falling. In ancient times, this wasn't an insignificant boon. After all, camels tend to be tall beasts. For riders, a fall could be dangerous. Why do I say camels? Archeologists know the Egyptians worked malachite perhaps as early as 4,000 BCE. They've found mines from that era in the Sinai.
